Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Synopsis

“Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it.  When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her.  Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

About the Story

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a 2020 American superhero film based on the DC Comics team Birds of Prey. It is the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe and a follow-up to Suicide Squad (2016).

Reviews:

This movie is incredible! It has such a bright, unapologetically comic book vibe. It transports you right on the page of a full color graphic novel—Cathy Yan did a phenomenal job on this. It is so important for women and girls to feel represented in superhero/supervillain movies. Only 26.7 percent of all DC and Marvel characters are female, and only 12 percent of mainstream superhero comics have female protagonists, yet almost half of all comic fans are female. As a long time consumer of comics, I absolutely love Yan’s take on Harley Quinn. We get to see a character who, for a long time, was just someone in The Joker’s story, become an epic, handle-herself, somewhat mentally insane, female icon. Harley Quinn has been a fan favorite before, and we can assume she will continue to make cinematic waves, but in my opinion, Cathy Yan helped make Birds of Prey her best debut yet.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
